This collaborative art installation for the Pearl Street Passage, the featured event for 2015 Design Philadelphia, is still a work in progress.

Emoji gate positions itself as a passageway and interface between pearl st and the surrounding neighborhood. The surface of the sculpture is a blank canvas for self expression, catalyzing potential interactions between visitors to the site and the surrounding community. The faceted arch structure is nested within the viaduct tunnel, relating to both the form and scale of the built environment. The translucent back lit skin of the sculpture serves as a lens for projecting user generated emoji collages onto the interior surface of the tunnel. Users can create their collages from a cache of existing emoji vinyl stickers, generated from social, historical and cultural site data, or create their own custom selfie-emoji sticker at the kiosk.
